【브레이크뉴스 울진】이우근 기자=울진군(군수 손병복)은 지난 27일 효성중공업(부사장 안성훈) 및 현대엔지니어링(대표이사 홍현성)과‘원자력청정수소산업 육성을 위한 업무협약(MOU)’을 각각 체결했다고 29일 밝혔다.

군에 따르면 이번 업무협약은 세계 기후위기 시대 탄소중립을 선도하고 미래 청정에너지라불리는 원자력 청정수소를 대량으로 생산·실증하기 위해 울진군에서 추진하고 있는‘대규모 청정수소 생산실증단지 조성사업 예비타당성 신청(11월)’을 비롯한 ‘울진 원자력 수소 국가산업단지 조성 사업(12월)’을앞두고 진행됐다.
이번 업무협약으로 원자력 청정수소의 생산 인프라(현대엔지니어링)및저장·운송 인프라(효성중공업) 조성에 추진력을 얻을 것으로 기대된다.
효성중공업 업무협약 중점사항은 ▲수소 액화 플랜트 구축, ▲액체수소 저장·운송 트레일러 및 액체수소 공급용 파이프라인 구축, ▲액체수소 충전소 구축및 운영, ▲원자력 활용 수소생산 국가산업단지 조성 시 참여 등으로서 액체수소생산·저장·운송 인프라를 구축하기로 협약했다.
효성중공업은 액체수소 사업을 선도하는 대기업으로서 울산, 전남에 이어울진지역에도 대규모 청정수소의 원활한 유통 및 활용을 위한 인프라 구축사업을 확대할 예정이다.
현대엔지니어링 업무협약 중점사항은 ▲MMR 활용 고온수전해 청정수소 생산 플랜트 구축, ▲SOEC 스택 생산 플랜트 구축, ▲원자력 활용 수소생산 국가산업단지 조성 시 참여등으로서 MMR 활용 고온수전해 청정수소 생산 인프라를 구축하기로 협약했다.
현대엔지니어링은 초소형원전(MMR)을 선도하는 국내 대기업으로서 캐나다 초크리버 광산지역에서 MMR 실증 프로젝트를 완료(2026년)한 후시설규모 확대 및 기술고도화를 통해 울진지역에서 대량의 청정수소를생산할 예정이다.
손병복 울진군수는 “이번 MOU로 울진군에서 추진 중인‘대규모 청정수소생산실증단지 조성 사업’과 ‘울진 원자력 수소 국가산업단지 조성사업’추진에 탄력을 받을 것으로 기대되며, 향후 본 사업이 착수되면 동해안수소경제벨트 활성화 및 지역 일자리 창출 등 지역상생에 큰 기여를할 것이다.”라고 밝혔다.
