광역지자체의 사회통합을 위한 첫 시도로 공식 출범한 ‘경상남도 사회대통합위원회’는 30일 공식 출범식과 함께 제1차 회의를 개최하며 본격적인 활동을 시작했다.

박완수 경상남도지사는 이날 사회대통합위원회 출범식에 참석한 도내의 각계각층에서 위촉된 민간위원에게 직접 위촉장을 수여하면서 향후 복잡하고 다양한 사회갈등을 극복하고 화합의 도정을 만드는 데 힘이 되어줄 것을 당부했다.
취임 전부터 사회통합의 중요성을 강조해 온 박 도지사는 지난 7월 1일 취임식에서 “우리 경남만이라도 진영과 이념, 세대를 아우르는 사회대통합위원회를 구성해 화합과 통합의 도정을 펼쳐 나가겠다”고 밝힌 바 있다.
경상남도는 경상남도 사회대통합위원회 설치 및 운영에 관한 조례를 제정해 사회대통합위원회의 법적근거를 마련했고, 평소 갈등 해결과 도민 통합에 학식.경험이 풍부한 21개 분야 69명을 민간위원으로 균형 있게 구성했다.
또한, 18개 시군에서 각계의 다양한 도민을 추천받아 위원으로 위촉하는 등 위원 구성에 세심한 노력을 기울였다.

사회대통합위원회는 도민통합을 위한 기본방향 및 전략 수립·변경, 사회갈등의 원인분석 및 해결·예방, 도민통합 공감대 형성 및 문화 확산 등에 대해 자문하는 역할을 해나가기로 했다.
노사·지역·계층·세대·교육 분과 등 5개 분과로 설치·운영될 예정으로 분과위원회는 위원별로 희망하는 분과를 신청받아 구성하게 된다.
분과별로 관련 분야의 사회갈등 문제를 발굴하고 회의를 통해 해결방안을 하나씩 찾아나갈 계획이다.
아울러, 경남연구원 연구진 등 전문가를 추천받아 분과위원회별로 자문단도 운영해 나가기로 했다.
