‘하동 배’ 대한민국 대표과일 선정

[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 농림축산식품부가 주최하고 한국과수농협연합회가 주관한 2022년 대한민국 대표과일 선발대회에서 지역대표 특산품인 하동 배가 최우수상을 수상했다고 6일 밝혔다.

지난 2일 대구 엑스코에서 열린 2022 대한민국 과일산업대전 개막식의 대한민국 대표과일 선발대회’에서 하동배영농조합법인 정재인 대표가 출품한 ‘신화 배’가 대한민국 최고의 배로 선발돼 최우수상의 영예를 안았다.

이번에 출품한 신화 배는 평가항목인 외관심사, 계측심사, 생산성과 관련된 시설 등을 확인하는 과원 심사 등에서 높은 점수를 받았다.

정재인 대표는 “하동 배는 일교차가 큰 지리산과 물 빠짐이 좋은 섬진강변의 사질양토에서 재배돼 석세포가 적은 대신 육질이 연하고 아삭하며 당도가 높고 과즙이 많아 시원한 맛이 뛰어나다”고 밝혔다.

군 관계자는 “2년 연속 대회에서 수상한 신화의 경우 농촌진흥청에서 개발한 우리품종으로 하동의 기후에 적합하고 기존 신고배를 대체해 하동 배를 이끌어갈 품종”이라며 “2017년부터 지속적으로 품종갱신을 지원한 성과가 나오고 있다“고 말했다.
