세종시의회가 중부권 내 고부가가치 의료산업 발전을 선도하기 위해 벤치마킹에 나섰다.
13일 세종시의회에 따르면 산업건설위원회와 미래전략수도완성 특별위원회 소속 위원들은 지난12일 시청 관계 공무원들과 함께 중입자치료센터를 찾아, 센터 관계자로부터 중입자 치료 가속기의 치료 원리와 효과, 센터 설립 준비 과정, 운영 방향 등에 대해 설명을 듣는 시간을 가졌다.
이번 방문은 타 지역 선진사례를 학습해 시 사업 추진에 접목할 수 있는 방안을 모색하기 위해 마련됐다.
세종시는 인구 증가 및 신종 감염병 증가 대비 공공의료 기능을 확충하고, 나아가 중부권 내 고부가가치 의료산업 발전을 선도하기 위해 국립 중입자가속기 암치료센터 설립의 타당성에 대한 연구용역을 올해 말까지 진행중이다.
이순열 산업건설위원회 위원장은 “선진사례 현장 방문을 통해 중입자 치료시스템의 치료원리와 효과에 대해 이해의 폭을 넓힐 수 있는 계기가 되었다며, 시설 도입과 관련해 의회 차원에서도 연구하고 고민할 수 있는 사항들을 적극 살피겠다”고 말했다.
또, 김동빈 미래전략수도완성 특별위원회 위원장은 “미래전략수도완성의 일환인 국립 공공의료기관 설립 및 중입자가속기 암치료 센터 유치를 위해 정치권과 관계부처 건의 및 홍보활동을 지속적으로 전개해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 연세의료원은 국내 최초로 중입자치료 가속기 도입 후 올해 4월경 본격적인 중입자치료 개시를 앞두고 있다. 지난해 말 완공된 중입자치료센터는 지하 5층, 지상 7층의 연 면적 약 3만 3천㎡ 규모로 외래진료·검사·중입자치료 시설이 갖춰져 있다.
