브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 미군이 동맹국에 대한 도청, 감청으로 얻은 정보가 담긴 기밀문건을 유출한 범인이 체포됐다.
13일(현지시간) 뉴욕타임스에 따르면 미 연방 당국은 매사추세츠 공군의 주방위군으로 복무해온 테세이라(21)를 군 기밀문서를 유출한 혐의로 체포했다.
테세이라는 최근 미국 정부가 우크라이나 전쟁과 관련해서 우방 국가들까지도 도청과 감청을 해온 사실이 담긴 군 기밀문서를 유출시켰다. 그는 미군 복무자라면 쉽게 접근 가능한 방법을 통해 정보를 빼낸 뒤, 이를 자랑하기 위해 온라인 상에 유포시킨 것으로 보인다.
테세이라는 온라인 채팅 사이트 디스코드에서 비공개 대화방인 '터그 세이커 센트럴'를 운영해왔으며 총기, 인종 차별적인 밈(meme·인터넷 유행어), 비디오 게임 등에 대한 이야기를 주로 해왔다고 NYT는 보도했다.
이 대화방의 참가자는 20~30명이었으며 그는 제복을 입은 자신의 전신 사진을 공개하기도 했다.
이와 관련, 국방부(펜타곤) 대변인 패트릭 라이더 준장은 '어떻게 병사가 기밀문서에 쉽게 접근이 가능하냐'는 질문에 "군의 속성 상 아주 어린 병사들도 심각한 책임이 뒤따르는 고급 정보를 다룰 수 있도록 신뢰하고 있기 때문"이라고 설명했다.
라이더 준장은 "이제 갓 고등학교를 졸업하고 입대한 신참병이 최고 등급의 군사기밀 작전에 투입되는 경우도 있음을 고려하면, 그런 신뢰와 책임 부여를 이해할 수 있을 것"이라고 부연했다.
