브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이재명 더불어민주당 대표는 지난 2021년 전당대회 관련 돈봉투가 살포됐다는 의혹과 관련해 "국민 여러분에게 심려를 끼쳐드린 점에 대해 대표로서 깊이 사과드린다"고 밝혔다.
이재명 대표는 이날 오전 국회에서 열린 당 최고위원회의에서 "정확한 사실 규명과 빠른 사태 수습을 위해 노력하겠다"며 이같이 말했다.
그는 "우리 당은 이번 사안을 엄중하게 인식하고 있다"면서 "아직 사안의 전부가 밝혀진 건 아니지만 지금까지 상황을 볼 때 당으로서 입장 표명이 필요하다 판단돼 공식적인 입장을 말씀드린다"고 설명했다.
이어 "당은 정확한 사실 규명과 빠른 사태 수습을 위해 노력하겠다"며 "송영길 전 대표의 조기 귀국을 요청했다는 말씀을 드린다"고 했다. 송영길 전 대표는 지난해 말부터 프랑스 파리에 체류 중이다.
다만 "이번 사안은 당이 사실을 규명하기에는 한계가 뚜렷하다"면서 "수사기관에 정치적 고려가 제외된 신속하고 공정한 수사를 요청한다"고 촉구했다.
이 대표는 "(향후) 사실관계가 확인되면 그에 상응하는 책임과 조치를 다 할 것"이라며 "이번 사안을 심기일전의 계기로 삼아 근본적인 재발 방지 대책도 확실히 마련하겠다"고 약속했다.
한편 검찰은 지난 2021년 5월 당 전당대회 당시 송영길 전 대표 측근인 윤관석·이성만 민주당 의원 등이 송 전 대표를 당선시키기 위해 이정근 전 민주당 사무부총장으로부터 불법 정치자금을 수수한 정황을 포착하고 수사를 진행 중에 있다.
검찰은 당시 민주당 의원 10여명을 포함한 정·재계 인사 40여명에게 총 9400만원의 불법자금이 살포된 것으로 보고 있다.
