[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 의령군 의령읍 동동리 및 유곡면 송산리 일원에서 올해 첫 모내기를 시작했다.
이번 모내기는 지난 10일 유곡면 송산리 박해덕 농가에서 약 1.3ha에 이르는 면적에 진옥벼를, 17일 의령읍 이재욱 농가에서 고시히카리를 0.5ha를 이식하는 등 현재 모내기 작업이 한창이다.
진옥벼는 조생종으로 수량이 양호하며 밥맛이 좋은 고품질 품종이며 고시히카리는 쌀알이 맑고 투명해 밥을 지었을 때 찰기와 윤기가 유지되는 것이 특징이다.
두 품종 모두 조생종이기 때문에 재배기간이 짧아 8월 중순쯤에 수확해 추석 명절용 햅쌀 시장을 공략할 수 있다는 장점이 있다.
농업기술센터 관계자는 “고품질 벼 재배를 위해 우리 군은 모판지원사업, 벼 육묘용 상토·매트 지원사업, 육묘상자 처리제 지원 등의 사업을 추진하고 있다”며 “올해 농사가 잘되어 의령쌀의 경쟁력을 더욱 높이고 농가 소득이 증대되기를 바란다”고 말했다.
