한국자유총연맹(총재 강석호)은 4월26일자 보도자료에서 “한국자유총연맹은 4월 28일 오후 4시, 서울 광화문 동화면세점 앞에서 연맹 강석호 총재를 비롯한 김진태 강원도지사, 안상수 전 인천시장, 안효대 울산 부시장, 이완섭 서산시장, 최재구 예산군수 등 내빈과 연맹 임직원 및 시‧도지부 회장, 자문위원, 회원 3,000여 명이 참석하는 ‘북한 인권 탄압 규탄 대국민 확산 결의대회’를 개최한다”고 밝혔다.
연맹측은 “윤석열 정부의 3월 30일 북한인권보고서 발간·공개를 계기로 북한 김정은 정권에 그동안 북한 주민에게 자행해 온 인권유린 범죄를 통렬히 반성하는, 인간으로서 최소한의 양식 있는 조치를 취할 것을 강력히 촉구하기 위해 북한 인권 탄압 규탄 결의대회를 마련했다”고 전하고 “이날 결의대회는 강석호 총재 대회사, 송영선 전 국회의원의 강연(주제: 북한 인권), 북한 인권 규탄 결의문 낭독 등으로 진행되며, 결의대회 후 연맹 문예분과 자문위원회 주관으로 ‘자유민주주의 수호 대국민 정서 함양 문화예술 출범식’이 이어질 예정”이라고 알렸다.

강석호 총재는 사전 배포된 대회사를 통해 “윤석열 정부의 이번 북한인권보고서 발간이야말로 지구촌 최악의 인권 사각지대인 북한에 대한 주의를 환기하고, 향후 인권 유린의 책임을 묻겠다는 결연한 의지를 적극적으로 표현한 것으로 생각하여 발간을 환영한다”라며, “북한 정권은 북한 내외에서 발생하는 범죄와 인권 침해를 하루빨리 인정하고 국제사회의 권고 이행에 조속히 나서라”라고 강력히 요구했다.
