브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 더불어민주당 신임 원내대표에 3선의 박광온 의원이 당선됐다.
민주당은 28일 국회에서 열린 의원총회에서 재석 의원 169명 가운데 ‘과반’의 지지를 얻은 박광온 의원을 내년 총선을 이끌 4기 원내 사령탑으로 선출했다.
박 의원은 원내대표 선거 정견발표에서 "한 분 한 분의 말씀을 잘 듣겠다. 존중하겠다. 한 분 한 분의 소중한 의견을 원내 운영에 반영하겠다. 한 분 한 분의 고충과 애로를 충실히 파악하겠다. 맞춤형 해법을 찾아내겠다. 그래서 서로가 하나가 되는 강한 통합의 토대를 만들겠다"고 약속했다.
이어 "모든 의원님과 함께 내년 총선에서 반드시 이기겠다. 하나가 되면, 기필코 이긴다"며 "정권의 폭주와 실정에 국민이 절망하고 있다. 민주주의는 퇴행하고, 민생은 무너지고, 국격은 추락하고, 국익은 훼손됐다. 선거에 지면 모든 게 거꾸로 간다. 모두가 뼛속까지 아프다. 그래서 내년 총선에서 반드시 이기고 싶다. 이겨야 한다. 함께하면 이길 수 있다"고 강조했다.

박광온 신임 원내대표는 온건 성향의 친이낙연계이자 비이재명계로 분류되는 3선 정치인이다.
온건 성향답게 계파를 크게 따지지 않고 당내 구성원들과 두루 친분을 두텁게 쌓아왔기 때문에 신임 원내대표로 적임자라는 평가다.
그는 1984년 MBC에 입사한 언론인 출신 정치인으로, 2012년 19대 총선에서 고향인 전남 해남·완도·진도 지역구에 출마했으나 당내 경선에서 탈락했고, 2014년 7·30 재보궐 선거로 두 번째 도전장을 낸 그는 경기 수원정 지역구에서 이명박 전 대통령의 측근인 임태희 새누리당 후보를 누르고 당선돼 19대 국회에 입성했다.
이후 두 번의 총선에서 같은 지역구에 내리 당선돼 3선에 성공했다.
지난 2015년에는 문재인 당시 당대표 비서실장을 지냈으며 2017년 19대 대선에서 문재인 후보 선거대책위원회 공보단장을 역임했다.
아울러 이낙연 전 대표 체제에서 당 사무총장을 지냈고 지난해 민주당 대선후보 선출을 위한 당내 경선에서 이낙연 캠프 총괄본부장을 맡아 '친이낙연계'로 분류된다.
한편 박광온 신임 원내대표는 내년 총선을 당의 승리로 이끌어야 하는 중책을 맡게 됐다. 특히 최근 불거진 '전당대회 돈 봉투' 의혹과 검찰 수사를 받고 있는 이재명 대표 문제도 수습해나가는 등 당 내홍을 잠재우는 중요 역할을 해나가야 한다.
