‘다함께! 굳세게! 끝까지!’라는 슬로건으로 진행되는 이번 대회는 지난 1일 망양정 해맞이공원에서 성화 채화 및 봉송이 진행됐으며, 이날 개회식은 기후로 인한 선수들의 불편함을 최소화하기 위해 실내테니스장에서 진행됐다.
대부분의 선수들은 미리 자리에 착석하고, 소수 인원만 입장식을 하는 등 선수들의 불편함 해소 및 안전에 중점을 두는 방향으로 진행됐다.
이번 대회는 12개 종목, 22개 시·군 대항전으로 치러지며, 선수 및 보호자 등 5천여 명이 도내 18만 장애인을 대표하여 이틀간 주경기장인 울진종합운동장을 포함한 12개 경기장에서 열린다.
정식종목으로는 육상, 족구, 씨름, 게이트볼, 역도, 파크골프, 배드민턴, 볼링, 탁구, 당구이고, 시범종목으로는 한궁, 수영 경기가 펼쳐진다.
울진군은 성공적인 대회개최를 위해 경기장 시설 및 숙소, 식당 등 선수들의 편의시설 요청을 접수하여, 경사로 설치 등 선수들의 이용 편의에 만전을 기했다.
이번 대회는 마지막 날인 3일 종합시상에 이어 차기 대회 개최지인 구미시에 대회기를 전달하고 대회 기간 동안 장애인들의 열정과 희망으로 타오르던 성화 소화를 끝으로 대화합의 장을 마무리한다.
