취임식에서 조성돈이사장은 “방사성폐기물관리법이 공단에 고준위방폐물 관리사업자로서의역할을 위임한 것은 명백한 사실”이라며, “고준위방폐물 사업을 순조롭게 진행할 수 있는 기틀을 마련하는 것을 가장 우선적으로 추진할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

또한 “중저준위 방폐물 사업을 시작한 지 14년차를 맞아 이제는 사업성과를 증명해야 하는 시기“라며,공단의 대표 사업성과인 방폐물 인수·처분량 확대와 표층처분시설 및 방폐물분석센터 건설 등의 원활한 사업추진을 통해, 안전을토대로한 중저준위 사업의 도약을 강조했다.

아울러 ”방폐물사업은 국민의 신뢰에서 비롯되며 많은 외부 이해관계자와의 소통은 모든 직원들의 가장 중요한 역할”이라며 국민과의 소통 강화를임직원들에게 주문했다.

조성돈이사장은 “임직원들과 소통할 수 있는 다양한 기회를 마련, 공단의현재와 미래를 함께 고민하겠다”고 덧붙였다.

한편 조성돈 이사장은 1959년, 강원도 평창 출생으로 한국외국어대학교 해운경영학(석사), 한국원자력환경공단 경영본부장, 한국원자력환경공단 기획조정실장,한국원자력환경공단 성과관리실장, 한국원자력환경공단 전략기획실장,한국원자력환경공단 대외협력실장을 역임 했다.
