불교 조계종의 신흥사 회주였던 조오현 스님(曺五鉉, 1932~2018)은 열반 전에 ‘심우장’을 만들었다고 한다. 열반 전, 제자에게 “내 육신이 사라진 뒤, 20년 후에 심우장(강원도 인제군 만해마을에 소재)의 문을 열라”고, 유훈(遺訓)을 남겼다고 한다. 조오현 스님은 시대가 변화함을 예측한 듯하다. 심우장 내에 무엇이 보관되어 있는지는 잘 모른다. 하지만, 적어도 20년 후쯤을 내다보는 지혜를 요구한 셈이다.
