재단에 따르면 축산항 개항 100년 보물선 프로젝트는 내년 개항 100주년을 앞둔 축산항의 역사의 의미를 되새기며 축산항의 가치를 재조명하고, 새로 발견한 인문적 자원을 통해 축산항을 부흥시킬 문화관광 동력을 만들고자 기획되었다.
그 중 ‘영덕, 축산항 주민탐사대 : 내가 만난 축산항’은 축산항의 역사, 인물, 이야기가 담긴 문화 자원을 발굴하고 다양한 매체로 기록하는 역할을 맡게 된다. 주민 탐사대가 채록한 역사, 인문 자원은 축산항의 미래를 위한 초석으로 널리 활용될 것이다.
축산항 주민 탐사대는 축산항에 관심있는 영덕 주민 누구나 참여 가능하며 사진, 영상총 두가지 활동 분야를 모집한다. 참여자는 분야별 전문가의 강의와 현장 탐사, 작품 고도화를 위한 멘토링으로 성과물을 완성할 예정이다. 선정된 주민탐사대원에게는 소정의 활동비도 지급된다.
