【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=한국원자력환경공단(이사장 조성돈, 이하 공단)은 3일 정부 국정과제인 고준위방폐물의 안전한 관리를 위해 기존 고준위추진단을 고준위사업본부로 확대 재편하는 조직개편을 단행했다.

공단에 따르면 이번 조직 개편은 국가 방폐물관리 전담기관으로서 정부의 고준위방폐물 관리로드맵이 적기에 추진될 수 있도록 체계를 정비하고 글로벌 수준의 역량과 경쟁력을 갖춘 조직으로 거듭나기 위해 실시됐다.
고준위사업본부는 핵심과제인 고준위방폐장 부지확보와 기술개발,전문인력 양성 업무를 총괄한다.
고준위사업본부 산하 고준위기획실은 고준위특별법 제정 즉시 부지확보에 착수할 수 있도록 부지조사에 필요한 기준을 마련하고 각종 데이터를 사전에 확보하는 한편,국내 고유의 처분시스템 개발을 위한 지하연구시설 확보를 추진한다.
고준위기술개발원은 지난해 수립한 정부의 고준위방폐물 R&D로드맵 이행을 통해 사업추진에 필요한 기술을 확보한다.
인력개발원은 고준위 분야 인재양성사업의 컨트롤타워로서 산·학·연협업을 통해 현장·실무형 핵심인재를 육성할 계획이다.
조성돈 한국원자력환경공단 이사장은 “고준위방폐물 관리사업자로서 특별법이 제정되면 고준위방폐장 부지선정, 지하연구시설 확보 등방폐물사업 전담기관으로서 역할과 책임을 다 하겠다”고 밝혔다.
