브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= KB국민은행은 개체수가 급감하고 있는 꿀벌 생태계 회복을 위한 ‘K-Bee 프로젝트’의 일환으로, 서대문구청 옥상에 ‘K-Bee 도시양봉장’ 3호를 조성했다고 8일 밝혔다.
이번 도시양봉장은 작년 4월과 올해 5월 개장한 KB국민은행 여의도 본점 옥상 ‘K-Bee 도시양봉장’ 1호와 서울숲 ‘K-Bee 도시양봉장’ 2호에 이어 KB국민은행이 도심 속에 조성한 세 번째 양봉장이다.
서대문구청은 메타세쿼이아 숲으로 유명한 안산과 인접해 있는 등 꿀벌 서식에 적합한 환경을 갖고 있어 세 번째 도시양봉장 장소로 선정됐다. KB국민은행은 서대문구청 옥상에 양봉장을 설치하고 벌들을 위한 밀원식물을 심어 꿀벌들의 새 보금자리를 조성했다.
새로 조성된 ‘K-Bee 도시양봉장’ 3호에는 앞으로 꿀벌 20만 마리가 거주할 예정이다. 또한, 서대문구에 거주하는 어린이들을 대상으로 어린이 생태 체험 프로그램 등도 진행할 계획이다.
KB국민은행 관계자는 “올해 그 어느 해보다 봄꽃이 빨리 피는 등 급격한 기후변화로 인해 꿀벌 생태계는 여전히 위협받고 있다”며 “앞으로도 꿀벌의 중요성을 알리고 꿀벌 생태계 복원을 위해 지속적으로 노력하겠다”고 전했다.
한편, KB금융그룹은 윤종규 회장이 신년사에서 강조한 그린 트랜스포메이션의 일환으로 생물다양성 보존을 위한 꿀벌 생태계 회복 지원 사회공헌 프로젝트인 ‘K-Bee 프로젝트’를 전개하고 있다.
꿀벌 서식지 조성을 위해 여의도 KB국민은행 본관 옥상에 도시양봉장을 조성하고 서울식물원 내 야생벌을 위한 비호텔을 설치했다. 또한, 창경궁 일대에 밀원수로 이루어진 궁궐숲과 강원도 홍천 지역에 백합나무, 헛개나무, 아까시나무 등 개화시기가 서로 다른 밀원수 10만 그루 조성사업을 추진하는 등 기후변화로 인한 꿀벌 생태계 변화에 대응하고 있다.
