경주시, 해양쓰레기 저감에 기여한 공로 인정받다

22일 경주시에 따르면 해양수산부는 매년 연안에 인접한 11개 시·도 및 74개 시·군·구의 ‘해양쓰레기 저감 우수사례’를 발굴해 광역 2(최우수, 우수), 기초 2(최우수, 우수) 등 4개 지자체를 선정해 시상하고 있다.

경주시는 올해 처음으로 추진한 ‘경주해안길 비치코밍’ 사업이 해양쓰레기 저감에 기여한 공로를 인정받았다.

비치코밍은 해변(Beach)과 빗질을 뜻하는 코밍(Combing)의 합성어로 시민들이 직접 해양쓰레기를 수거해 깨끗한 바다를 만드는 참여형 연안정화 캠페인이다.

현재 자원 봉사자들과 학생 등 단체들이 적극적으로 참여하고 있으며, ‘국제연안 정화’의 날을 맞아 지난 8일에도 오류 고아라해변에서 연안정화 활동을 펼쳤다.

주낙영 시장은 “지금까지 우리가 바다의 무한한 사랑을 받기만 했다면 이제는 바다를 아끼고 가꾸어야 할 때”라며 “해안둘레길 비치코밍을 내실 있게 운영할 수 있도록 시민 여러분들의 많은 관심과 참여를 부탁 드린다”고 말했다.
