초가을 차가운 바람을 가르는 주먹과 발차기, 몸과 몸이 부딪고 땀과 열기로 가득한 킥복싱대회로 중구 우리들 공원이 후끈 달아오른다.
관중들의 추임새와 함성으로 분위기가 고조되고 젊고 친근한 땀 냄새가 짙어 지면서 지나던 시민들의 발걸음이 더뎌지고 안타까운 탄성이 여기저기 들린다.

코르나 여파로 닫혀있었던 그 시간의 빗장이 풀리면서 우리 민족의 특유한 공동체의식과 스포츠에 대한 갈망이 이곳에서 다시 꽃피운다.
이번 대회는 4년 만에 열리는 한일교류전이다. 도쿄와 후쿠오카 등 일본의 유망주선수들이 대거 참여하여 기량을 마음껏 발휘하는 대회이며 순수한 아마추어 어린학생들과 여성선수도 시합을 겨루는 축제와 같은 행사로 진행 되었다.
젊고 유능한 홍진호 회장과 실무경험이 많은 음종국전무가 킥복싱협회를 맡으면서 대회가 활발하고 내실 있게 펼쳐지고 있고 대외적인 활동이 이어지고 있다.
특히 킥복싱이 시민친화적인 스포츠로 다가가서 생활체육으로 자리매김하는 노력을 기울여 왔다고 한다.
이번 대회도 시민과 함께 즐기고 관람할 수 있는 대회로 만들기 위하여 아마츄어선수들이 시합에 더많이 참여하는 등 세심한 배려를 하였다. 일본과 친선교류를 확대 발전시켜 나가는 우호 협력체계를 갖추는 협약식을 이끌어내고 방송취재로 분위기도 띄우고 유튜브 생중계도 하며 대중 속으로 깊고 넓게 펼쳐내기도 하였다.
순수한 피와 땀은 아름답다.

다운도 당하고 실신도 하며 때론 피범벅이 되기도 하였지만 노력을 한 만큼의 결과를 만들어 가야 하는 선수들의 각오와 투지가 빛나는 순간들 이었다.
몸과 몸이 부딪는 어린 선수들의 순수한 투혼과 열정을 통하여 한일간 갈등과 편협한 이해관계들을 날리고 모처럼 가을하늘처럼 맑고 청량하게 서로의 마음을 여는 시간이 되었다.

우리 민족은 무술을 존중한다.
전통무술인 택견, 수박, 선무도 등이 대중 속에 긴 호흡을 같이하고 武를 藝, 道로 승화시키는 것은 우리민족의 고귀한 정신문화의 흐름이며 맥인 것이다. 그래서 무를 통하여 심신수련을 이루는 것이다.

젊은 여성들이 열광하는 것도 단순히 몸과 몸이 부딪는 순수한 열정의 운동이라 더 큰 관심을 보이는 것이다. 이번 대회에 출전한 어린 여성들이 지치지 않고 포기하지 않으며 끝까지 시합하는 모습에 그들이 어떻게 미래를 만들어 갈지 선명하게 그려진다.
앞으로 킥복싱이 대중으로부터 더 많은 사랑을 받는 스포츠로 기대가 되는 이유이다.
대회를 치루면서 예산상의 문제가 가장 큰 어려움이었다고 한다.
국제대회인 만큼 기본경비가 많이 소요되는데 대전광역시의 지원으로는 감당할 수 없어 협회 임원들이 사비를 털어 대회를 준비하였다고 한다.
