Dongducheon Regional Development Committee hopes to attract public medical center to Dongducheon
Citizens’ general rally held
Dongducheon citizens will not stop until the day a public medical center is built.
[Break News Dongducheon = Reporter Kim Wan-young] The Gyeonggi-do Dongducheon City Pan-Citizen Countermeasure Committee (Chairman Shim Woo-hyun, hereinafter referred to as Pan-Citizen Countermeasures Committee) held a citizen rally to attract a public medical center to Dongducheon at 11 o'clock on the 24th at the Gwanggyo new office building of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office.
About 700 people, including Dongducheon Mayor Park Hyeong-deok, Dongducheon City Council Chairman Kim Seung-ho, Provincial Councilors Im Sang-oh and Lee In-gyu, city council members, officials from the pan-representative committee, and citizens, participated in the rally on this day.
Although the government and Gyeonggi Province promised compensation for Dongducheon City's security sacrifices over the past 70 years, the committee has not been properly implemented. This is a civic group that was launched last May by holding a launching ceremony to unite the hearts of many citizens and show strong will.
This event was held to attract a public medical center to Dongducheon in the northeastern part of Gyeonggi Province. It started with a progress report by the vice-chairman, followed by a speech by the pan-chairman, supportive remarks by the mayor of Dongducheon and the chairman of the Dongducheon City Council, slogans by provincial and city councilors, reading of a resolution, and a speech such as 'Dokdo is ours'. The event proceeded in the following order: singing the opening song of 'Land' in unison, performing a performance of bursting gourds, and delivering a proposal to the governor.
Through a resolution, the committee stated that the expansion of public medical care is a topic of utmost concern not only to the medical community but also to the entire public these days, and that the governor of Gyeonggi Province is unable to make a decision even though the golden time for medical care for residents of northeastern Gyeonggi Province is not far away. In addition, he delivered a message to the government on pending issues in Dongducheon City, such as land donated to the US military, hosting a medical school in northern Gyeonggi Province, and the second phase of a national industrial complex.
Last July, in order to attract a public medical center, Dongducheon City signed an agreement with Daejin Medical Foundation to lease the main building of Dongducheon Jesaeng Hospital for free so that it could be used as a public medical center. Accordingly, in an era of national fiscal austerity, more than 200 billion won in taxpayer money can be saved, and with the unprecedented condition of having a large hospital with 1,200 beds,
He stated that he strongly urges that a public medical center be established in Dongducheon.
Chairman Shim Woo-hyun of the pan-representative committee said in his speech, “The governor must quickly pursue his pledges and confirm the construction of a public medical center in the northeastern part of Gyeonggi Province in Dongducheon, which is the only place where he can implement them during his term.”
In addition, Dongducheon Mayor Park Hyeong-deok supported the attraction of a public medical center to Dongducheon, saying, “All 90,000 citizens will never stop until the day when a public medical center in the northeastern part of Gyeonggi Province is built in Dongducheon.”
Meanwhile, the establishment of a public medical center in the northeastern Gyeonggi region is a pledge of the Gyeonggi Province Governor and is a necessary project to improve the underdeveloped medical system in northern Gyeonggi Province.
