브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 최근 시중 마트에서 하림 브랜드의 생닭을 샀다가 뱃속에서 벌레가 다량 나온 사건과 관련, 김홍국 하림그룹 회장의 발언이 논란이 되고 있다.
김홍국 회장은 지난 1일 하림산업의 어린이식 브랜드 푸디버디 출시 기자간담회에서 '벌레 생닭 논란'에 대해, 기계가 닭의 모이 주머니를 빼내는 과정에서 오류가 난 것 같다면서 "곤충을 식용으로 쓰기도 하는데 (생닭에서 나온) 딱정벌레도 그 중 하나"라고 설명했다.
김 회장은 이어 "실질적으로 사람 건강에는 전혀 문제가 없다"면서 "친환경 농장은 소독약을 쓰지 못해 벌레가 많을 수 밖에 없다. 앞으로 위생 관리 등을 잘하겠다"고 설명했다.
하림측도 공식 입장문을 통해 "이물질이 발생한 제품이 소비자에게까지 나가게 된 점에 대해 잘못되고 죄송한 부분이라고 생각한다"며 사육부터 생산·포장 등에 이르기까지 전 공정에 대한 전수조사를 진행하고 재발 방지를 약속했다.
이어 "다시는 이런 일이 일어나지 않도록 전반적인 부분을 다시 재정비한 상태"라며 "자동화 설비다 보니 그동안 전 공정에 대한 전수 조사가 어려웠는데 앞으로는 인력을 더 투입해 사육부터 포장까지 육계 생산 전 과정에 걸쳐 좀 더 세밀하게 전수 조사 할 것"이라고 말했다.
하지만 김 회장의 발언은 섭취했어도 크게 문제될 게 없다는 취지여서 적절치 않은 발언이라는 지적이 나온다.

특히 주무부처인 식품의약품안전처에서도 김 회장의 발언에 대해 "해당 이물질이 식용으로 안전하다고 할 수 없다"고 반박했다.
식약처 관계자는 "(김홍국 회장의 발언은) 식품원료로 등재돼 있는 벌레이니 그걸 빗대서 얘기한 것으로 보인다"면서 "생닭에서 나온 벌레가 식품원료인 밀웜으로 등재돼 있는 건 사실이다. 하지만 원재료를 위생적으로 가공하고 만들었을 때에야 안전성이 보장된다는 의미다. 닭에서 나온 이물질이 섭취가 가능하고, 이 경우 안전하다고 할 수 있는 건 아니다"라고 말했다.
식품 원료가 되는 벌레라 해도 당연히 생닭에선 나오면 안되는 이물질이 나온 만큼, 이를 식용했을 때 안전을 보장할 수 없다는 것이다.
한편, 정읍시는 이번 조사 결과를 바탕으로 하림 측에 '경고' 처분을 내렸다. 경고 처분을 받은 뒤 일정기간 내 다시 위반할 경우 2차시 품목 제조 정지 5일 처분, 3차시 품목 제조 정지 10일 조치를 받게 된다.
정읍시는 아울러 조만간 업체를 방문해 재발 방지책 및 시정 조치가 제대로 이행됐는지도 확인할 계획이다.
