이낙연 전 더불어민주당 대표는 4일 신당 창당설과 관련, 연합뉴스TV '뉴스포커스'와의 인터뷰에서 이같이 밝혔다.
이낙연 전 대표는 "신뢰받지 못한 두 정당(국민의힘-더불어민주당)이 극단으로 투쟁하다보니 아주 생산적이지 못한 정치 양극화가 지속되고 있다"면서 "이걸 저지하기 위해 하나의 대안으로 제3세력의 결집이라는 모색이 있고 그 취지에 공감한다"고 강조했다.
이어 "제3세력이라는 것은 양당 모두 싫다는 사람에게 선택지를 제시하는 것"이라며 "양당은 스스로의 매력을 밝히고 노력해야지, 국민 선택을 짓밟아서 기득권을 유지하려는 것은 죄악"이라고 비판했다.
이낙연 전 대표는 또한 "이 시기에 저라는 사람이 국가를 위해 뭘 해야 도움이 될까 하는 것은 제가 인생을 걸고 고민하는 문제"라고 했고, 연대를 위해 접촉하는 제3세력 인물이 있느냐는 질문엔 "제가 얘기하면 큰 뉴스가 될 것"이라고 즉답을 피했다.
최근 김부겸 전 총리와 회동을 가진데 대해선 "믿을만한 사람을 모시고 당에 대한 걱정을 나눴다"며 "(회동 내용은) 상당 부분이 문제 의식"이라고 설명했다.
그는 특히 자신의 행보가 당을 압박하는 모양새가 그려지고 있는데 대해선 "제가 마치 당을 압박하는 것처럼 됐는데 그 얘기를 한다는 건 별로 의미가 없다"면서 "민주당은 수십년 동안 내부의 다양성과 당내 민주주의라는 면역체계가 있어서 큰 병에 걸리지 않고 회복을 했는데 지금은 그 면역체제가 무너졌다. 누구든지 할 말을 하고 그것 때문에 불이익을 당하지 않게 하는 것이 시급하다"고 주장했다.
그러면서 "윤석열 정부가 이렇게 실점해도 왜 반사이익을 못 받는지를 알면서도 당에선 아무것도 못하고 있다. 아무것도 못하고 있는 건 깨면 된다. 달걀을 안에서 깨면 병아리가 되지만 밖에서 깨면 프라이가 된다"고 덧붙였다.
