【브레이크뉴스 울진】이우근 기자=한국수력원자력(사장 황주호, 이하 한수원)은 신한울2호기(140만kW급)가 6일 오전 7시 최초 임계에 도달했다고 밝혔다.

임계는 원자로에서 원자핵분열 반응이 일정하게 유지되는 것으로, ‘임계 도달’은 원자로가 안정적으로 제어되어 전기를 생산할 수 있는 준비를 마쳤다는 점에서 의미가 있다.
국내 28번째 원자력발전소인 신한울2호기는 지난 9월 7일 원자력안전위원회로부터 운영허가를 취득한 후 원자로에 연료를 장전하고 고온 기능시험 등을 진행해왔다.
안전을 최우선으로 발전소 계통의 성능시험을 거쳐 오는 20일에는 최초로 전력을 생산해 겨울철 전력피크에 기여할 계획이며, 출력 단계별 주요 시험을 거친 후 내년 상반기 본격적인 상업운전에 들어가게 된다.
한편 신한울1,2호기는 핵심설비인 원자로냉각재펌프(RCP) 및 원전계측제어시스템(MMIS) 등을 국산화해 기술자립을 이뤄낸 국내 최초의 발전소다. 신한울2호기와 동일한 발전소인 신한울1호기는 지난해 12월 상업운전을 시작해 현재까지 365일간 무고장 운전을 이어가고 있다.

Shin-Hanul Unit 2, Korea's 28th nuclear power plant, obtained an operating permit from the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission on September 7 and has been loading fuel into the reactor and conducting high-temperature functional tests.
With safety as the top priority, the plant plans to undergo performance tests of the power plant system and produce electricity for the first time on the 20th to contribute to the winter power peak. Meanwhile, Shin Hanul Units 1 and 2 are the first power plants in Korea to achieve technological independence by domestically producing core facilities such as the reactor coolant pump (RCP) and nuclear instrumentation and control system (MMIS). Shin Hanul Unit 1, the same power plant as Shin Hanul Unit 2, began commercial operation in December of last year and has been operating without failure for 365 days to date.
