브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 송영길 전 더불어민주당 대표가 '전당대회 돈살포 의혹'과 관련, 19일 전격 구속됐다.
이날 법조계에 따르면 서울중앙지법 유창훈 영장전담 부장판사는 정치자금법 위반 등 혐의를 받고 있는 송영길 전 대표에 대해 증거인멸 염려가 있다며 구속영장을 발부했다.
전날 구속영장 심사에 들어간지 14시간만인 19일 자정경 구속영장 발부 결정이 내려졌다.
송 전 대표는 "돈봉투 살포 사실을 알지 못했다", "외곽 후원조직은 매년 회계감사를 받았다", "전화했다고 증거인멸이라고 말하면 너무 불공정한 게임이다" 등의 발언을 하며 혐의를 모두 부인해왔으나, 법원은 송 전 대표가 범행에 관여된 것으로 본 것이다.
한편, 검찰은 송영길 전 대표가 돈봉투 의혹의 핵심이자 최종 책임자로 보고 있으며 이번 구속 영장 발부로 인해 수사에 탄력을 붙을 것으로 전망된다.
검찰은 송 전 대표에 대한 추가 조사를 실시하는 한편, 돈봉투를 받은 것으로 의심되는 민주당 전현직 의원 20여명에 대해서도 조사할 방침이다.
