손병복 울진군수는 기존의 ‘수소 실증단지 조성’ 사업의 추진 방향을 원자력 수소 국가산업단지로 전략적으로 수정하고, 수소 관련 기업들과 MOU를 맺는 등 적극적이 유치 활동을 진행했다.
이를 통해 탄소중립시대 새로운 대안이 될 수소를 울진이 보유한 비송전 전력을 활용하여 생산할 수 있는 원자력수소 국가산업단지 후보지로 선정되며 지역 발전과 더불어 국가 경쟁력을 높일 수 있는 기반을 마련한 공로를 인정 받았다.
