지난해 우리 중구는 국내외의 다양한 위기들 앞에서도해야 할 일들을 굳건히 해나갔습니다. 그 결과 답동성당 일원 관광 자원화 사업 준공으로새로운 야간경관 명소를 조성하고,부족한 공원과 주차공간을 확보하며원도심 활성화의 마중물을 마련했습니다. 또, 민선 8기 제물포 르네상스 추진에 맞춰1883년 개항 이후 140년 만에 내항이 개방되며 구민의 품으로 돌아왔습니다.
특히 구민 숙원사업이었던 영종대교와 인천대교 통행료 문제가 해결됐고 영종국제도시에서 운행되는 좌석버스 요금체계도 이원화되며 교통비 부담도 완화됐습니다. 난항을 겪던 서울도시철도 9호선 공항철도 직결사업도 인천시와 서울시의 전격적인 합의로 급물살을 타게 됐습니다. 이 같은 결실은 구민 여러분의 적극적인 참여와 격려, 공직자 여러분의 헌신이 있었기에 가능했습니다. 구청장으로서 16만 구민 여러분, 공직자 여러분에게 진심으로 감사드립니다.앞으로도 중구의 발전과 구민의 삶의 질 향상을 위해한 걸음 한 걸음 적극적으로 나아가겠습니다.
첫째, 새해에는 서로가 서로에게 버팀목이 될 수 있는 따뜻한 중구가 되겠습니다.

2024년 1월 1일 영종2동 행정복지센터 개청에 이어 신포동, 개항동, 신흥동, 용유동 행정복지센터도 신축해 쾌적한 환경에서 더 나은 행정서비스를 제공하고 주민자치와 소통을 기반으로 주민공동체를 한층 더 강화해 나가겠습니다. 또한 율목커뮤니티 센터에 이어 남북동 복합커뮤니티 센터도 차질 없이 준공해 주민 소통·화합을 강화하는 거점으로 삼겠습니다.
