민생당 박성준 수석대변인은 1월11일 “이태원 참사 진상규명은 반드시 이뤄져야 한다” 제목은 논평을 발표했다.
민생당 박성준 수석대변인은 이 논평에서 “9일 국회에서 ‘이태원참사진상규명특별법’이 통과됐다. 작년 연내 통과가 무산되어 수많은 걱정과 비판이 나왔지만, 이제라도 진상규명을 위한 특별법이 국회 문턱을 넘어 그나마 다행이라 할 수 있다”고 강조하고 “하지만 특별법이 통과되는 자리에 여당 국민의힘은 모두 퇴장했으며, 정부는 거부권을 시사하고 있다는 것이 참으로 안타깝고 유가족들 앞에 또 뭐라 변명을 늘어놓으며 진상규명을 연기시키고 방해할지 실망보단 분노가 앞선다”고 지적했다.
이어 “이태원 참사를 수사한 경찰청 특수본도 김광호 서울 경찰청장의 책임을 인정하는 보고서를 작성했던 것으로 확인된 만큼, 윤석열 대통령은 정치 공학이 아니라 국민의 한 사람으로서 유가족들의 상처를 한 번이라도 생각한다면 거부권 행사는 아예 생각조차 하지 마시기 바란다. 불미스러운 일이 벌어진 후에는 반드시 진상규명과 책임 소재 파악 및 책임자 문책은 당연한 일이며, 그래야 재발을 방지할 수 있다는 것을 윤 대통령과 대통령실이 깨닫길 바란다”면서 “그런데 대통령실은 특별법 처리 절차를 문제 삼아 거부권 행사를 벌써 준비하고 있다니 국민을 상대로 아집과 오기로 정권의 입장을 관철하려는 모습이 처량하기 그지없다”고 논평했다.
민생당은 “안전한 대한민국을 위해, 이태원 참사 진상규명과 책임자 처벌을 강력히 촉구하며, 특별법에 대한 거부권을 행사한다면 윤석열 정부뿐만 아니라 여당 국민의힘에 대한 국민의 심판은 상상 이상이 될 것이라 경고” 했다.

In this commentary, Minsaeng Party chief spokesperson Park Seong-joon said, “On the 9th, the ‘Special Act on the Investigation of the Itaewon Tragedy’ was passed in the National Assembly. “Last year, the passage was canceled within the year, which raised a lot of concerns and criticism, but it can be said that it is fortunate that the special law to uncover the truth has passed the National Assembly threshold,” he emphasized. “However, when the special law was passed, the ruling party People Power Party left. “It is truly unfortunate that the government is hinting at its right to veto, and I am more angry than disappointed at what excuses they will come up with in front of the bereaved families to delay and hinder the investigation of the truth,” he pointed out.
He continued, “As it has been confirmed that the special division of the National Police Agency that investigated the Itaewon disaster also wrote a report acknowledging the responsibility of Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Kim Kwang-ho, President Yoon Seok-yeol is not a political engineer, but as a citizen, he has the right to veto if he even thinks about the hurt of the bereaved families. Please don't even think about the event. “I hope that President Yoon and the President’s Office realize that after an unpleasant incident occurs, it is natural to uncover the truth, identify the person responsible, and hold the person responsible accountable, and only then can a recurrence be prevented,” he said. “However, the President’s Office takes issue with the special law handling procedures.” “They are already preparing to exercise their veto, so it is truly pitiful to see the government trying to enforce its position through obstinacy and arrogance towards the people,” he commented.
The Minsaeng Party said, “For a safe Republic of Korea, we strongly urge the investigation of the truth about the Itaewon disaster and punishment of those responsible, and warn that if the right to veto the special law is exercised, the people’s judgment not only on the Yoon Seok-yeol government but also on the ruling party People Power Party will be beyond imagination.”
