[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 김해시는 탈플라스틱 정책의 일환으로 지난해 시범 운영한 친환경 현수막 활성화 사업을 본격 추진한다고 5일 밝혔다.
현수막은 주성분이 플라스틱 합성섬유여서 땅에 묻어도 잘 분해되지 않고 태우면 온실가스, 발암물질 같은 유해 물질이 다량 배출된다.
지난 한 해 김해에서 사용된 현수막은 행정용 9,600여 장을 비롯해 총 9만5,000여 장으로 무게로 57t에 달하며 마대와 선풍기 커버 등으로 일부 재활용하고 있지만 비율이 크지 않아 환경 오염의 한 요인이 되고 있다.
김해시는 이에 대한 대안으로 지난 2023년 8월 저단형 행정게시대에 친환경 현수막을 달도록 운영지침을 변경한 것을 시작으로 9월부터 전 부서에서 제작하는 공공용 현수막을 친환경 소재로 제작하는 시책을 추진 중이다.
또 전국체전, 김해방문의 해 등 올해 시 주관 대규모 행사 시 친환경 현수막 전면 사용으로 탄소중립 선도도시 이미지를 다지고 산하기관과 보조금 사업자를 비롯해 민간 부문까지 점진적으로 확대해 나갈 계획이다.
시는 전 부서 운영 실태를 점검한 결과 행정게시대는 100% 친환경 현수막이 게시되며 사업 시행 전 전체 공공용 현수막의 2% 내외에 불과하던 친환경 현수막 사용률이 지난해 4분기 53% 이상으로 증가하는 등 사업의 안정적 추진을 확인했다.
기존 현수막을 친환경 현수막으로 대체할 경우 매립 시 자연분해가 가능하고 소각 시 유독물질이 적어, 공공용 현수막의 경우 연간 2.7t, 전체 현수막으로 확대하면 연간 25.5t의 탄소 발생을 줄일 수 있다.
