윤석열 대통령이 16일 "이공계 학생들이 학비·생활비 걱정없이 학업·연구에 매진할 수 있도록 전폭 지원하겠다"고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 이날 대전시 유성구 ICC호텔에서 '대한민국을 혁신하는 과학 수도 대전' 주제로 열린 열두 번째 국민과 함께 하는 민생토론회 모두 발언에서 "국가과학기술 경쟁력을 높이는 가장 확실한 방법은 미래 인재를 키우는 것"이라며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "국가연구개발(R&D)에 참여하는 모든 전일제 이공계 대학원생에게 석사 매월 80만원, 박사는 매월 최소 110만원을 빠짐없이 지원할 것"이라며 "이공계 대학원생 스타이펜드 도입 뿐 아닌 대통령과학장학금을 학부생에서 대학원생까지 확대해 1인당 연 2500만원을 지원하겠다"고 밝혔다.

더불어 "대전을 과학 수도에 걸맞게 도시 개방·연결성을 확대하는 방향으로 바꿔나갈 것"이라며 "세종 행정기능과 청주 바이오·반도체 산업이 시너지를 낼 수 있도록 '대전-세종-청주 간 CTX(충청 Train Express) 사업' 민자사업 적격성 조사를 신속 착수하는 등 임기 내 사업을 가시화할 수 있도록 하겠다"고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 "제2대덕연구단지를 속도감 있게 조성해 제1단지와 함께 미국 보스턴 바이오 클러스터처럼 연구개발을 법률·금융·회계 등 서비스산업과 유기적으로 결합하는 첨단클러스터로 만들어 갈 것"이라고 밝혔다.
