브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 더불어민주당이 4월 총선과 관련, 현역 의원 '하위 20%' 평가 결과를 발표한 뒤 당 내 갈등이 더욱 높아져 가고 있다.
이와 관련 이재명 대표는 20일 오전 국회에서 기자들과 만난 자리에서 "새로운 모습으로 환골탈태하는 과정에서 생기는 일종의 진통이라고 생각해달라"고 말했다.
이재명 대표는 "특별당규 당헌에 따라서 공천은 공정하게 진행된다"면서 "공천관리위원회가 훌륭한 인물들로 잘 결정해 드릴 것으로 생각한다"고 했다.
이어 그는 "공천시스템에 따라 (모든 국회의원이) 평가를 받을 수밖에 없는 게 현실이고, 그 평가 결과에 대해서 모두가 만족하는 것은 있을 수 없는 일"이라며 "본인은 동의하지 못하는 평가들에 대해 당연히 불평 불만이 있을 수밖에 없다"고 당내 여러 논란들에 대해 해명했다.
그러면서 "원래 혁신이라고 하는 것이 그 언어가 가진 의미처럼 정말 가죽을 벗기는 그런 고통을 의미하기도 한다"고 부연했다.
이 대표는 또한 "민주당의 공천시스템은 국민의힘과 다르게 이미 1년 전에 정해진 시스템"이라며 "공정하게 위원회를 구성해 오래 전 평가한 결과였기 때문에 어렵더라도 우리 국민 눈높이에 맞는 공천을 위해 불가피한 과정이라고 이해해주길 부탁드린다"고 강조했다.
아울러 하위 평가를 받은 의원 대다수가 비명계(비이재명계)라는 주장과 관련해서도 "그렇지 않을 것이다. 제가 아끼는 분들도 많이 포함돼 있을 것이다"라고 반박했다.
한편, 민주당 공관위는 지난 19일부터 하위 20% 평가를 받은 의원들에게 개별 통보를 하기 시작했다.
4선의 김영주 의원은 전날 자신이 하위 평가를 받게 된 점에 반발해 탈당을 선언했고, 비명계 박용진 의원 역시 자신이 하위 10%라는 통보를 받았다면서 재심 신청을 하겠다는 입장을 밝히기도 했다.
