'제3차 민주주의 정상회의'가 오는 3월 18일부터 20일까지 3일 간 '미래 세대를 위한 민주주의' 주제로 한국서 개최된다고 대통령실이 20일 전했다.
이날 대통령실에 따르면 각국 정상이 참여하는 정상회의 본회의는 오는 3월 20일 저녁 화상 형식으로 개최된다.

당시 2차 회의 경우 화상·대면 형식으로 진행된 가운데 윤석열 대통령은 본회의 제1세션 모두 연설에서 "규범 기반 국제질서를 정면 부인하는 권위주의 세력들 진영화에 더해 반지성주의로 대표되는 가짜민주주의가 전 세계적으로 고개들고 있다"고 밝힌 바 있다.
지난 2021년 화상 형식으로 진행된 1차 회의는 반부패·탈권위주의·인권증진 등을 의제로 한국 포함 110여 개국 정상이 참여한 가운데 당시 참가국들은 대내외적으로 민주주의를 수호·강화하기 위한 약 750건 공약을 발표했었다.
