[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 거제시는 22일 거제시민의 오랜 숙원사업인 거제~통영 고속도로 건설사업에 대한 한국개발연구원의 예비타당성조사 현장실사가 실시 됐다.

이번 현장실사는 지난 2021년 제2차 고속도로 건설계획 반영에 이어 올해 1월 기재부 재정사업평가위원회 심의를 거쳐 예비타당성조사 대상사업으로 선정됨에 따라 이뤄졌다.

현장실사에는 한국개발연구원, 국토교통부, 한국도로공사, 경남도청, 거제시, 통영시 관계자 등이 참여한 가운데 사업노선에 대한 질의와 의견 청취, 사업 현장점검 등으로 진행됐다.

거제시 관계자는 거제~통영 고속도로 건설 사업의 시급성과 당위성을 적극적으로 설명했다.

거제~통영 고속도로 건설사업은 통영시 용남면에서 거제시 문동동까지 24.6km, 4차로 신설을 위해 1조 7,282억원이 소요되는 사업으로 사업기간은 2024년부터 2034년까지로 계획하고 있다.

박종우 거제시장은 “대전~통영 고속도로와 연계한 U자형 국가간선도로망 완성으로 가덕도신공항, 부산·진해신항과 더불어 옥포·죽도국가산단의 원활한 물류 수송은 물론 주요 관광지 접근성 강화로 지역경제 활성화에 크게 기여 할 것으로 기대된다”며 “예비타당성조사 통과를 위해 앞으로도 기재부, KDI, 한국도로공사, 경남도 등과 긴밀히 협력하고 사업타당성을 적극적으로 확보하는 등 전 행정력을 집중하겠다”고 밝혔다.
