대통령실이 25일 의대 입학정원에 대해 "지난 30여년 동안 7천 명 인원이 감소했고, 이를 반영해 2천 명 증원을 결정했다"고 밝혔다.
성태윤 정책실장은 이날 용산 대통령실 브리핑에서 "2천 명 인원이 많은 게 아닌 30여년 간 1명도 의대 증원이 이뤄지지 못했다"며 "이로 인해 감소 인원이 7천 명인데 이런 상황을 반영해 결정된 걸로 안다"고 밝혔다.
또 '기존 2천명을 의사 측과 조율해 낮출 가능성 있느냐'란 질의에 "현재 추계한 2천명 자체에 대해선 계속해 필요 인원으로 생각하고 있다"고 답했다.
