브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 현대자동차그룹은 영국 런던대학교 School of Oriental and African Studies, SOAS)와 지난 23일(현지시간) 영국 런던대학교 칼릴리 강의 극장에서 ‘지속가능한 구조변화 연구소(Centre for Sustainable Structural Transformation, CSST)’ 개소식 행사를 개최했다고 26일 밝혔다.
SOAS는 런던대학교를 구성하는 17개의 단과대학 가운데 하나로, 개발도상국, 특히 아시아와 아프리카 지역 연구에 특화한 대학이다.
현대차그룹과 런던대 SOAS는 지난 해 민관 전문가들이 학제간 논의와 정기적인 워크샵, 세미나 등을 통해 아프리카를 비롯한 개발도상국 산업화 방안과 관련 정책을 토론하는 기관인 ‘개발 리더십 대화의 장 연구소(Development Leadership Dialogue Institute)’를 개소한 바 있다.
이번에 문을 연 CSST는 아프리카의 지속가능성장을 위한 구조적 변화를 연구하는 연구소다. 세계적인 석학인 SOAS 장하준 교수의 주도 하에 아프리카 지속가능성장의 핵심 요소라 할 수 있는 △공급망 △재생에너지 △광물자원 △인프라의 개발에 관한 연구를 진행할 계획이다.
이를 바탕으로 지속가능한 구조 변환에 기반한 개발도상국의 사회-경제 발전 방안을 제시하고, 현대차그룹을 비롯한 민간 기업과 개발도상국 정부의 역할에 대한 구체적인 비전을 제안할 예정이다.
이번 CSST 개소식에 참석한 HMG경영연구원 박성규 상무는 “지속가능성장은 파트너와 조화롭게 움직여 공동의 목적지에 도달하는 2인 3각 경기와 같은 것으로, 공존과 연대, 협력 등의 가치는 현대차그룹이 추구하는 ‘인류를 향한 진보’와도 맞닿아 있다”며, “아프리카의 지속가능성장을 모색하는 길에 대한민국의 발전 경험과 현대차그룹의 성공 경험이 큰 도움이 되기를 기대한다”고 전했다.
한편, 현대차그룹은 오는 3월 25일 한국에서 CSST, 한·아프리카재단과 함께 CSST의 주요 연구 과제인 재생에너지, 광물자원, 인프라 등을 주제로 ‘2024 한·아프리카 비즈니스 포럼’을 개최할 예정이다.
