브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 더불어민주당은 15일 '목발 경품' 발언 등으로 논란이 된 정봉주 전 의원의 서울 강북을 공천을 취소하고, 해당 지역구를 전략공천할 것으로 보인다.
박성준 민주당 대변인은 이날 CBS라디오 '김현정의 뉴스쇼'에서 "경선의 절차적 과정에는 문제가 없다고 결론이 났고, 그 이후 정봉주 후보의 과거 발언 때문에 생긴 문제"라며 "해석의 여지가 없이 전략공천으로 간다고 보면 된다"고 밝혔다.
이어 그는 "이 사안은 공천 자체의 경선이 매듭지어진 상황에서 나온 문제"라며 정봉주 전 의원과 후보 경선을 벌인 차점자 박용진 의원은 재공천 대상이 아니라고 못 박았다.
그러나 같은날 홍익표 원내대표는 "강북을은 전략적으로 재지정하는 것으로 박용진 의원을 심사 대상에서 배제할 이유는 없다"고 가능성을 열어놨다.
홍익표 원내대표는 "전략공천위원회 심사를 거쳐 재공천 후보가 확정될 것으로 보이는데, 경선에서 탈락한 박용진 의원을 포함해서 다양한 사람들을 놓고 판단하게 될 것"이라고 했다.
박용진 의원이 차점자이기 때문에 우선순위가 있다는 것은 아니지만 그를 배제할 이유도 없다는 것이다.
한편, 민주당은 지난 14일 밤 정봉주 전 의원의 4·10 총선 서울 강북을 후보 공천을 취소하기로 전격 결정했다.
