브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 현대자동차그룹이 세계 최대 산유국인 사우디아라비아에 친환경 미래 모빌리티 생태계를 조성하기 위해 힘을 보탠다.
현대차그룹은 24일(현지시간) 사우디아라비아 리야드(Riyadh)에서 사우디 기가 프로젝트(Giga Project) 중 하나이자 프로그램 추진 주체인 RSG(Red Sea Global)와 ‘친환경 미래 모빌리티 도입을 위한 업무협약(MOU)’을 체결했다고 25일 밝혔다.
이날 협약식에는 이동건 현대차그룹 GSO(Global Strategy Office) 미래성장전략 사업부 상무, 존 파가노(John Pagano) RSG CEO 등이 참석했다.
사우디는 원유 중심의 경제구조를 탈피하고 장기적인 성장 동력을 마련하기 위해 2016년 ‘사우디 비전 2030(Saudi Vision 2030)’ 전략을 수립한 바 있다.
RSG는 네옴(Neom, 미래형 신도시), 키디야(Qiddiya, 엔터테인먼트 복합단지), 로쉰(Roshn, 주택 개발), 디리야(Diriyah, 유적지 개발) 등 사우디가 공식 선언한 사우디 비전 2030의 기가 프로젝트 5개 중 하나로 홍해 및 서부 해안의 자연 친화적 럭셔리 리조트 및 웰빙 관광단지 조성을 목표하고 있다.
현대차그룹과 RSG는 이번 MOU를 통해 친환경 모빌리티 솔루션 실증과 미래 모빌리티 솔루션 협업 기회 발굴 및 추진 등에 협력하기로 했다.
현대차그룹은 RSG가 개발하고 있는 홍해 지역 움마하트 제도(Ummahat Islands) 리조트 단지와 서부 해안의 친환경 웰빙 관광단지인 아말라(AMAALA)에서 전기차 및 수소전기차를 실증하고, 이를 통해 사우디 내 친환경 모빌리티의 보급 확대와 생태계 조성에 기여한다는 계획이다.
중장기적으로 RSG 개발 단지 전체에 AAM, 자율주행 등 미래 모빌리티 솔루션 도입을 도모할 예정이다.
지난해 현대차그룹은 사우디 국부펀드와 킹 압둘라 경제도시(King Abdullah Economic City, KAEC)에 전기차를 포함해 연간 5만대의 자동차를 생산할 수 있는 CKD 합작공장을 건설하는 투자 계약을 체결한 바 있다.
동시에 사우디 버스 공영 운송 업체, 기업 등과 수소 모빌리티 생태계를 조성하기 위한 협업을 맺고 사우디의 친환경 에너지 저변 확대를 위해 적극 나서기로 한 바 있다.
이동건 현대차그룹 GSO 미래성장전략사업부 상무는 “이번 업무협약을 통해 양사의 강점을 살린 다양한 협업 기회를 모색해 나갈 예정”이라며, “현대차그룹은 앞으로도 미래 성장 동력 확보를 위한 협력을 다양하게 추진하고, 글로벌 에너지 패러다임 전환에도 기여할 계획이다”고 말했다.
