윤석열 대통령이 29일 방한 중인 미국 의회 상·하원 의원단을 접견하고 한국 기업에 대한 지원 등 상호 경제협력 증진을 당부했다고 대통령실이 전했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오후 용산 대통령실에서 커스틴 질리브랜드 상원의원 등 미 상·하원 의원단 7명을 만나 한·미 동맹강화를 비롯 경제협력 증진 관련 의견을 교환하며 이같이 말했다고 대통령실이 전했다.
윤 대통령은 "자유·민주주의·법치의 보편적 가치에 기반한 '글로벌 포괄 전략동맹' 한·미동맹 외연이 군사 안보뿐 아닌 경제·안보·첨단기술·문화·사이버·우주 등으로 나날이 확장되고 있다"고 말했다.
또 "한·미 양국 간 활발한 투자와 경제협력은 교역 증진·일자리 창출·인적교류 확대 등 양국 국민들이 체감할 수 있는 실질 혜택을 가져오고 있다"며 "이런 호혜적 협력이 더욱 확대될 수 있도록 미국 내 진출한 우리 기업 지원에 관심 가져 달라"고 강조했다.
더불어 우리 전문 인력·청년의 원활한 미국 진출이 이뤄질 수 있도록 전문직 비자 쿼터 법안 통과를 위한 각별한 지원을 요청했다.
미 의원단은 "지난해 4월 윤 대통령 국빈 방미를 계기로 한·미관계가 역대 최고 수준에 이르렀다"며 "정치적 위험을 감수하면서도 시대 변화를 직시하고 한·미·일 관계를 개선한 윤 대통령 용기에 존경을 표한다"고 말했다.
