군은 지난해 3월 15일 신규 국가산단 후보지로 지정되었으며, 정부에서는 올해 2월 14일에는 울진 원자력수소 국가산단을 예비타당성조사 면제로 추진하겠다고 발표한 가운데, 3월 26일에 입주희망 기업인GS건설·롯데케미칼·GS에너지·삼성E&A·효성중공업·비에이치아이와입주협약을 체결하는 등 올해 5월 예비타당성 조사 면제를 목표로 행정력을총동원하고 있다.
