윤석열 대통령이 17일 기시다 후미오 일본 총리와 전화 회담을 갖고 한·일 관계 발전을 위해 계속 노력해나가기로 했다고 대통령실이 전했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오후 7시부터 15분간 기시다 총리 제안으로 전화 통화를 가진 가운데 기시다 총리는 윤 대통령에게 최근 자신의 미국 국빈 방문 결과 및 미·일관계 진전 사항에 관해 설명했다고 대통령실은 전했다.
지난주 미국을 방문한 기시다 총리는 조 바이든 미국 대통령과 정상회담을 갖고 한·미·일 간 협력 의지를 다진 바 있다.
기시다 총리는 "앞으로도 굳건한 한·미·일 공조를 바탕으로 국제사회 다양한 이슈에 대응해나가는 가운데 파트너로서 한국과의 협력을 계속 심화해 나가고자 한다"고 말했다.
이에 윤 대통령은 "한반도·인태지역 포함 국제 정세 불안정성이 심화되는 상황서 한·일, 한·미·일 간 긴밀한 협력을 통해 역내 평화·번영에 기여해 나가자"고 화답했다.
또 양 정상은 북한 관련 한·일 대응에 대해 의견을 공유한 가운데 북한 관련 문제에 대한 한·일, 한·미·일 간 긴밀한 공조를 계속 발전시켜 나가기로 했다.
대통령실은 "지난해 일곱 차례 정상회담에서 쌓은 한·일 간 견고한 신뢰관계 및 형성된 긍정 흐름을 이어 나갈 수 있도록 올해도 양 정상·외교당국 간 격의 없는 소통을 계속해 나가면서 양국 관계 발전을 위해 노력해 나가기로 했다"고 전했다.
