[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] '의병의 성지' 의령군이 개최하는 전국 최대의 의병 축제 '홍의장군축제'가 18일 화려하게 막이 올랐다.
특히 지난해 '2024~2025 경상남도 지정 우수 문화관광축제'로 홍의장군축제가 선정되면서 여느 때보다 성공적인 축제에 대한 자신감과 열의가 높아지고 있다.
첫날 의령 충익사당에서 의병장 후손을 비록 관내 기관단체장, 학생 등 200여명이 참석한 가운데 추모 제향을 봉행했다.
제향에는 의령향교 남기청 전교의 집례로 초헌관은 오태완 의령군수, 아헌관은 윤병열 의령군의회 부의장, 종헌관은 이운장 장군 후손인 이기소씨, 축관은 곽재우 장군의 휘하에서 활약한 주몽룡 장군 후손인 주재명 씨가 맡았다.
저녁에는 혼불 채화식과 북놀이, 축등행렬이 장관을 이루며 축제 분위기가 무르익고 있다.
동반 행사로 개최되는 토요애수박축제와 민속 소힘겨루기대회에도 첫날부터 구름 인파가 몰리고 있다.

축제장에는 어린이들을 위한 '전국 의병주제관', '의병서당', '의병훈련소'가 설치됐고 '의병유적지 뱃길투어'는 가족 단위 관광객들의 문의가 줄을 잇고 있다.
19일 오후에 개최되는 개막식에는 축제 시작을 알리는 의병출정 퍼레이드와 당당한 발걸음으로 세상을 밝히는 횃불 행진을 통해 의병의 정신을 느낄 수 있다.
곽재우 장군과 17장령, 그리고 이름없는 의병까지 이들의 삶과 투쟁을 재조명한 창작 주제공연과 함께 밤하늘 상공에 떠올라 ‘난세의 주역 의령’을 형형색색 빛깔로 표현하는 ‘드론멀티쇼’는 장관을 연출한다.
