윤석열 대통령이 13일 "국민소득이 증대되고 국가 재정이 넉넉해야 국민이 누리는 자유·복지 수준도 획기적으로 끌어올릴 수 있다"고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오후 용산 대통령실에서 국민통합위원회 2기 성과보고회를 갖고 "양극화·사회적 갈등을 극복하고 국민통합을 이뤄내는 가장 중요한 기반은 결국 성장"이라며 이같이 밝혔다. 보고회엔 김한길 국민통합위원장·이해선 기획분과위원장·이현출 정치·지역분과위원장·유병준 경제·계층분과위원장·김석호 사회·문화분과위원장 등 민간위원 26명 전원이 참석했다.
윤 대통령은 "통합위가 지난 2년 정말 많은 역할을 해줬다. 사회적 약자를 보호하고 가치 공유를 통해 사회가 하나되는 문화를 만드는 데 통합위가 많은 노력을 해왔다"며 "관료 중심 정부가 미처 살펴보지 못한 과제들이나 이해관계자가 많고 조율이 어려워 엄두 안 나는 과제들을 발굴해 그 해결책을 모색해줬다"고 평했다.
그러면서 "스탠더드앤드푸어스(S&P)는 2026년 우리나라 1인당 GDP(국내총생산)가 4만불을 넘을 거라 전망하고 있다"며 "1인당 GDP 4만불을 넘게 되면 계층이동이 더욱 활발해지고 양극화도 많이 해소되고 국민들께서도 삶의 변화를 체감하시게 될 것"이라고 말했다.
또 "자연히 사회 갈등도 그만큼 줄어들게 될거라 생각한다"며 "정부는 경제 역동성을 높여 이런 변화를 하루라도 앞당기기 위해 노력하고 있다"고 말했다.
이어 "사회적 약자를 더욱 두텁게 보호하는데도 정책적 노력을 아끼지 않을 것"이라며 "정부 정책이 민생 현장서 실제 어떻게 작동하는지 예상치 못한 부작용은 없는지 정책·현장 불일치와 시차는 없는지를 면밀히 분석해야 한다"고 밝혔다.
