세종시와 법제처가 한글 조례 특화 도시 만들기를 위해 힘을 모으기로 약속했다.
최민호 시장과 이완규 법제처장은 14일 시청 4층 한글사랑 책문화센터에서 양 기관 관계자 10여 명이 참석한 가운데 ‘한글 조례 특화 도시 조성’을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다.
이번 협약은 한자어와 외래어가 사용된 조례를 한글로 정비해 세종을 ‘한글 조례 특화 도시’이자 대한민국을 대표하는 한글문화도시로 조성하기 위해 추진됐다.
협약에 따라 양 기관은 조례 속 한자어 및 외래어 등을 우리말로 정비 ,조례 제정 시 한자어 및 외래어 등 사전 차단 ,아름다운 한글 문장 조례 만들기 등에 상호 협력한다.
우선 올해는 어린이와 청소년이 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 아동·청소년 분야 일부 조례를 시작으로 ‘아름다운 한글 문장 조례’로 정비한다.
또 문화·복지 분야 조례에 사용된 한자어와 외래어를 우리말로 정비하고 내년부터는 정비 분야를 확대해 나갈 예정이다.
이외에도 시와 법제처는 조례의 한글화를 위한 세부 과제를 발굴해 지속적으로 협력할 계획으로, 이를 통해 세종시가 지속가능한 한글문화 도시로 자리매김하는 계기가 될 것으로 기대된다.
최민호 시장은 “이번 협약을 통해 시민의 한글 조례에 대한 이해도와 접근성을 높일 수 있을 것”이라며 “앞으로 세종시가 한글문화수도의 역할을 더욱 확고히 할 수 있기를 기대한다”라고 말했다.
이완규 법제처장은 “세종시와의 협약을 통해 전국적으로 모범이 될 수 있는 한글 조례를 만들고 이를 통해 시민 모두가 쉽게 이해하고 접근할 수 있는 기반을 마련하겠다”라고 화답했다.
