전 세계 51개국 250여명이 참석한 이번 행사에서는 ‘원자력 확대 가속화를 위한 국제협력’이라는 주제로 규제 협력, 공급망, 원전 신규도입국, 원자력 신기술 및 인력양성 등 다양한 주제에 대한 전문가들의 발표와 논의가 진행됐다.
특히, 우리나라에서 UAE 원전 프로젝트의 규제 및 프로젝트 관리 등에 대한 경험사례를 발표해 참가자들의 관심을 이끌었다.
황주호 한수원 사장은 “기후위기, 에너지 안보 및 늘어나는 전력수요에 대응하기 위해 원자력의 역할이 중요해지고 있다”며, “원자력 확대 목표 달성을 위해 모두가 다같이 협력하자”라고 강조했다.
한편, 세계원자력협회(World Nuclear Association)는 원전산업의 방향을 제시하고 세계 원자력 산업계 지원을 위해 2001년 설립된 비영리 기관으로, 원자력 관련 기관 및 연구소, 학교 등 전 세계 200여 개 회원사들이 가입되어 있다.
코델 워크숍은 2016년 미국을 시작으로 2년마다 주요 원전 운영국가에서 개최되고 있다.
