자연환경해설사란 생태·경관보전지역 및 습지보호 지역 등 생태 우수지역을 찾는 탐방객을 대상으로 생태해설교육, 생태탐방 안내를 하는 해설사이다. 자연환경해설사의 전문성 강화와 양질의 해설사 양성을 위해 환경부는 2012년 자연환경해설사 제도를 도입하여 운영 중에 있다.
동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 생태교육원은 2013년 환경부로부터 양성기관으로 지정받아 2024년 현재까지 441명의 자연환경해설사를 배출하였으며 수료한 인원들은 전국 각지의 생태우수지역에서 탐방객을 대상으로 생태해설사 등으로 활동하고 있다.
