브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= KT는 전국 270개의 통신 거점을 잇는 전송망을 초당 100 기가비트(100Gbps)를 보낼 수 있는 네트워크 인프라로 개선했다고 24일 밝혔다.
국내 통신사가 주요 통신 시설 전체를 100 기가 급으로 연결한 것은 이번이 처음이다. 기존 전송망의 용량은 10 기가비트 수준이었다.
KT는 전용회선 서비스를 이용하는 B2B 고객들이 100메가에서 2, 3기가 속도로 이용하는 추세를 반영해 전송망의 성능을 올렸다. 새롭게 구축된 전송망의 속도는 10배 빨라지고, 전송 장비의 용량은 기존 대비 6배 커져 데이터 전송의 안정성이 크게 향상됐다.
KT는 전송망 인프라 개선으로 대용량 트래픽의 효율적인 관리 외에도 5G 인프라 확충과 10G인터넷 설치 등 증가하는 고객 수요에 신속하게 대응할 수 있게 됐다며, 기존의 노후화된 저속 시설이 줄어든 만큼 전력 소모량과 탄소 배출량이 줄어드는 효과도 기대할 수 있다고 설명했다.
