이날 열린 개소식에는 류완하 동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 총장, 김지영 환경부 환경보건정책과장, 박기완 경상북도 기후환경국장, 이관 경상북도 환경보건센터장, 정주호 동국대 경주병원장, 홍성철 환경보건센터연합회장 등 환경부와 경상북도, 시민 등 약 80여 명이 참석하여 센터 출범을 축하했다.
개소식은 개회 선언 및 내빈 소개, 환영사, 축사, 현판식 및 기념촬영, 환경보건 포럼 순으로 진행됐다.
환경부는 지난 2007년부터 환경보건센터를 지정·운영하고 있으며, 최근에는 지역 환경보건 기반구축을 위한 권역형 환경보건센터 11개소, 정책지원형 환경보건센터 4개소를 지정·운영하고 있다.
동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스는 2024년 아주대학교(경기도), 화순전남대학교병원(전라남도)과 함께 권역형 환경보건센터로 지정되었으며, 2028년까지 총 5년간28억원을 지원받아 경북 도내 환경보건 이슈를 선제적으로 대응하여도민건강증진에 기여할 예정이다.
경상북도 환경보건센터의 주요 사업은 ▲환경보건 사전 감시체계 구축 ▲지역환경보건 기반구축 ▲환경보건 위해 소통체계 구축 ▲환경부 주요 연구조사 지원사업을 수행한다.
이관 경상북도 환경보건센터장(동국대학교 의과대학장)은 “앞으로 경상북도에서 환경유해인자 노출로 인해 발생할 수 있는 건강영향을 조사·규명하고 지역 환경보건 기반 구축을 통해 도민의 건강권 보호를 최우선 목표로 삼고 과업을 추진해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
류완하 동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 총장은 환영사를 통해 “ 환경문제에 대한 지역사회의 우려와 걱정의 목소리가 많은 현실에 경상북도 환경보건센터가 정부, 지자체, 그리고 대학 함께 이러한 문제해결에 체계적으로 접근할 수 있는 계기가 마련되어 기대가 매우 크다며, ”이를 위해 동국대 WISE캠퍼스도 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
개소식에 이어 열린 제1차 경상북도 환경보건 포럼에는 ▲기화변화와 환경보건(장윤석 UNIST 석좌교수) ▲경상북도 기후변화 적응을 위한 환경보건 정책방향(김희철 경북연구원 연구위원) ▲경상북도 대기질 현황과 관리(이기창경북보건환경연구원 환경연구사) 등의 주제가 발표됐다.
