대통령실이 27일 윤석열 대통령이 지난 2022년 이태원 참사 관련해 '조작된 사건일 가능성이 있다'고 말했다는 김진표 전 국회의장 주장을 정면 반박했다.
대통령실은 이날 오후 대변인실 명의 언론공지에서 "국회의장을 지내신 분이 국가조찬기도회서 대통령에게 독대를 요청해 나눴던 이야기를 멋대로 왜곡해 세상에 알리는 건 개탄스런 일"이라며 유감을 표했다.

김 전 의장은 이날 공개된 회고록 '대한민국은 무엇을 축적해왔는가'에서 이태원 참사 1개월여 뒤인 지난 2022년 12월 5일 국가조찬기도회에서 윤 대통령과 나눈 대화를 기술한 가운데 "윤 대통령이 '이 사고가 특정 세력에 의해 유도되고 조작된 사건일 가능성도 배제할 수 없다' 했다"고 주장했다.
