'2024 나토(NATO·북대서양조약기구) 정상회의' 참석차 미국 워싱턴DC를 방문 중인 윤석열 대통령이 11일 "행정안전부 장관 중심으로 피해지역에 대해 신속하고 실질적 피해지원이 이뤄지도록 정부 부처 모두 총력 대응을 하라"고 긴급 지시했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 참모들로부터 국내 집중호우 관련 피해 상황을 보고 받고 "기상예보를 훨씬 넘어선 극한 호우로 많은 인명·재산피해가 발생해 안타깝다"며 이같이 지시했다고 김수경 대통령실 대변인이 서면브리핑에서 전했다.
또 "주말부터 장마전선이 다시 북상하기 때문에 추가 피해가 우려된다"며 "피해 지역에 대해 더 이상 피해가 발생 않도록 신속하게 응급 복구를 실시하라"고 주문했다.
더불어 "전국적으로 호우 대처를 위한 위험 시설 예찰·통제를 강화하는 등 기상이변으로 인한 극한 호우까지 대비하는 비상 대응 태세를 다시 한번 정비할 것"이라고 당부했다.
전날 윤 대통령은 미국 현지에서 집중호우 상황을 보고 받고 "가용 인력·장비를 총동원해 인명 구조·피해 예방을 최우선 실시하라"고 긴급 지시한 바 있다.
