윤석열 대통령이 유혜미 한양대 경제금융학부 교수를 저출생 대응을 위해 신설되는 저출생수석비서관에 내정한 것으로 25일 전해졌다.
인사 발표는 이날 오후 중 정진석 대통령 비서실장이 할 예정으로 차관급 인사도 함께 포함된 것으로 전해진다. 저출생수석비서관은 대통령실 신설 조직으로 인구 절벽 위기에 맞춰 저출생 문제에 집중 대응키 위한 것이다.
유 교수가 저출생수석에 임명되면 현 대통령실 수석비서관급 이상 참모진 중 유일한 여성이다. 당초 대통령실은 성별을 구별않고 전문성 있는 '40대 여성 워킹맘'을 적임자로 물색해 왔다.
유 교수는 서울대 경제학부 졸업 후 한국은행에 입사했다 미국 유학길에 올라 로체스터대 대학원에서 경제학 박사학위를 취득했고, 뉴욕주립대 버펄로대학 경제학과 조교수를 거쳐 현재 한양대 교수로 재직 중이다.
1977년생 유 교수는 남편 석병훈 이화여대 경제학과 교수 사이에 초등학생 쌍둥이 자녀를 두고 있고, 함께 공동 육아를 하는 부부 경제학자로 알려져있다.
