브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 대우건설은 임직원 자원봉사자들이 광복절을 맞아 지난 13일 봉사활동의 일환으로 독립유공자 후손을 위한 집짓기의 과정 중 하나인 골조공사 및 목공 공사를 진행했다고 14일 밝혔다.
대우건설은 2021년부터 2023년까지 한국해비타트와 함께 독립유공자 후손의 건강하고 안락한 환경을 제공하고 삶의 질을 향상하기 위해 총 21채의 집고치기 사업을 진행했다. 이 성과를 바탕으로 올해는 일부 인테리어 및 시설 고치기에서 그치지 않고 기존 주택을 철거한 후 새로운 보금자리를 지어주고 있다.
대우건설 임직원 자원봉사자는 천안에 위치한 해비타트 스쿨로 이동해 데크 제작, 목재 재단, 지붕 트러스 제작, 니스 작업, 도색 작업, 자재 운반 등 전반적인 골조공사 및 목공 공사를 진행했다.
2024년 사업의 수혜자는 독립유공자 배용석 열사의 손자 배영규님으로 선정됐다. 배용석 열사는 1919년 3월 12일 쌍계 교회 목사 박영화 등이 주도한 비안면 쌍계동의 독립 만세 운동에 참여했다. 1919년 5월 15일 대구 복심 법원에서 소위 보안법 위반으로 옥고를 치룬 후 1986년 12월 국가독립유공자로 표창됐다.
대우건설 관계자는 “79번째 광복절을 앞둔 시점에서 이루어 진 봉사활동이 독립 유공자 후손의 주거 환경 개선을 위한 활동이라는 점에서 매우 뜻깊게 생각 한다”며 “무더운 날씨에도 많은 대우건설 임직원들이 독립유공자 후손 주거 환경 개선을 위해 자발적으로 자원 봉사에 나섰으며, 광복의 의미를 다시금 느낄 수 있는 시간이었다”고 전했다.
한편, 대우건설은 2001년부터 ‘희망의 집 고치기’ 캠페인을 시작으로 2018년부터는 한국해비타트와 협업해 활동규모를 넓히며 후원을 지속적으로 이어가고 있다. 국내에서 그치지 않고 나이지리아, 베트남 등 의료 소외지역의 주민을 위해 안과 의료 서비스를 제공하는 등 국내외 사회적 약자를 위한 후원을 통해 지역사회와의 상생을 위한 노력을 이어가고 있다.
