대통령실이 26일 더불어민주당 이재명 대표의 윤석열 정부 독도 지우기 의혹에 대한 진상조사 지시에 대해 "현명한 국민 여러분께선 철지난 친일 계엄몰이에 더 이상 속지 않을 것'이라고 밝혔다.
정혜전 대통령실 대변인은 이날 오후 용산 대통령실 브리핑에서 "강성 지지층을 위해 근거 없는 괴담 선동을 했다면 이 또한 정치적 책임을 피할 수 없을 것"이라며 "이런 소모적 논쟁이 과연 도대체 국민이 먹고사는 데 어떤 도움이 되는 거냐"며 강하게 비판하며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "있지도 않는 독도 지우기를 왜 야당이 의심하는 건지것 그 저의를 묻고 싶다"며 "독도 철거물은 노후화됐기 때문에 새로운 독도 조형물을 설치할 계획"이라고 전했다.
이어 "언론에서 거론되고 야당에서 지적하고 있는 지하철역 조형물들은 2009년 설치돼 15년이 경과됐고 전쟁기념관 조형물은 2012년 설치돼 12년이 경과돼 탈색되고 노후화된 것"이라며 "특히 지하철역 조형물은 독도의 날 10월 25일에 맞춰 다시 새롭게 새로운 조형물로 설치한다'고 전했다.
또 "노후화돼 재설치한다는 내용을 알고도 왜 야당은 자꾸 독도 지우기란 괴담을 퍼뜨리는 건가?"라며 "독도 지우기에 나선 정부가 연 두 차례씩 독도 지키기 훈련을 하는 가?"라며 반문했다.

또 "전혀 근거 없는 계엄 괴담으로 도대체 괴담 선동 끝은 어디인가?"라며 "야당이 과반 의석 이상이면 언제든 계엄 해제가 가능한 걸 알면서도 계엄 준비설을 운운하는 건 혹시 야당이 그런 상황이 오길 기다리는 거냐?"라고 말햇다.
