윤석열 대통령이 4일 추석 명절에 앞서 심야 응급실을 찾아 응급 의료 현장 실태를 살피고 "명절 연휴가 다가오고 있는데 가용한 자원을 가장 우선 투입해 의사 선생님들이 번 아웃되지 않도록 최선을 다해 지원하겠다"고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 이날 저녁 8시 50분께 경기도 카톨릭대 의정부성모병원 권역응급의료센터를 방문해 1시간 20분가량 머물며 "필요할 경우 예비비를 편성해서라도 지원할 것"이라며 이같이 밝혔다고 정혜전 대통령실 대변인이 서면브리핑에서 전했다.
경기북부 권역응급의료·권역외상센터를 운영 중인 의정부성모병원은 의정부·양주·동두천·포천·연천·철원 등 수도권 내 의료취약지역 필수의료를 담당하는 곳으로 응급센터에서 연간 6만명 가량 환자를 진료한다.
윤 대통령은 한창희 의정부성모병원장·최세민 권역응급의료센터장 안내로 1층 응급센터로 이동해 진료 현장을 둘러보며 "의사 선생님들이 헌신적으로 해주셔서 너무 감사하고 다행"이라며 "주중보다 주말에 응급환자가 더 많냐?"고 물었다.
이에 한 병원장은 "그렇다. 지난 설연휴 때 40% 가량 응급 환자가 더 많이 온 점을 고려 때 이번 추석 연휴 때 환자가 늘 것 같다"고 답했다.
